Privacy and data security

What we collect, how it's protected, what we never do with it, and how long we keep it.

Clearpath Tax & Accounting collects the information needed to prepare your tax return โ€” identification, income documents, expense records, and the answers you give in the client portal. We use it only to prepare and file your return and to respond to tax authorities on your behalf when you ask us to.

How it's protected

Documents you upload are stored encrypted on servers in the United States. Only you and your assigned preparer can open them; each time a preparer views a document or reveals a Social Security number, that access is recorded. Preparer accounts require multi-factor authentication. We maintain a Written Information Security Plan as required by the FTC Safeguards Rule (16 CFR 314) and IRS Publication 4557.

What we don't do

We do not sell or share your information with anyone outside the firm except as needed to file your return (the IRS, your state revenue department, and the e-file software provider) or as required by law. We do not use your tax information for marketing. Consistent with IRC ยง7216, we will not use or disclose your return information for any other purpose without your written consent.

How long we keep it

We keep a copy of your return and the records supporting it for at least three years after filing, as the IRS requires of preparers. After that, records are deleted on a schedule unless you ask us to keep them longer. You can request a copy of your file, or ask that it be deleted after the required retention period, by emailing hello@clearpathtaxgrp.com.
